I know it sounds crazy. It might even be an absurd thought, but I follow every other commandment except for the one described in Exodus 20:8-11.
This passage is talking about the Sabbath. Where did I and everyone else that I know lose sight of that.
Right now I'm a student; right now it's time for finals and final projects. Right now is crazy. I also work a job, and while it is work, my school work and assignments are just as much work if not more than the workload and stress from my jobs.
It might seem crazy, but this week I am going to work as hard as I can so that I can take a day off from school and everything elsethis weekend.
In Leviticus God commands that the Isrealites take this Sabbath day or this day of rest. In fact he says that anyone not obeying will be put to death. I agree it is extreme, but I think this indicates God is for real about resting. He keeps having to drill this into his people because they just wouldn't listen. Sound familiar?
When you hear Sabbath you're probably going to think about Sunday. If you don't do any work on Sunday then awesome there is your Sabbath. I believe we are missing the point though if define Sunday as the only day of rest. Personally, I place in the band a lot on Sunday mornings. Trust me it isn't quite rest. I think the main idea here is to rest for a day, and in that rest delight in the Lord for that day.
I think the Israelites did mess this up though. I think they took "not working to an extreme" they made manmade laws regarding it. I think God just wants us to work really hard for him during the week and then be able to rest and be able to enjoy who he is.
My biggest problem with not doing this is I don't think I'll get it done if I don't work through my Sabbath to complete something.
I'm not even saying here that a day of rest should be spent in total meditation all day long. It's rest.
I'm resting on Saturday, but I'm gonna work my tail off until then.
I really like this illustration.

definitely good thoughts.
i think that romans 12:2 is so important. through a sabbath, a day where we rest in the awesomeness of GOD, we renew our minds and our passions. it is needed.
i really like this.
yea i definitely think the rest is more related to resting in God then just saying ok we quit. But through rest in God we will renew our whole selves.
it looks like you are having a conversation with yourself. you wrote the post and commented... now three times.
